Love on the Dole

Saw Love on the Dole last night, at the Bolton Octagon. It’s an in-the-round theatre, which is interesting, although it also doubles as a sauna, which makes the latter acts somewhat uncomfortable.

I enjoyed the play, Mrs. Monkeyshines thought it was okay, but was less impressed than me, which was sort of the wrong way round, since it was her idea to go in the first place. I’m almost entirely ignorant when it comes to history, even relatively recent British history (it’s set in Salford in the 30s), so that aspect of it was educational, and the acting was pretty good. Clare Foster was fun to watch in the lead role, not exactly a natural performance, but expressive – not the kind of thing you see on TV or in films, but entertaining.
